Welcome to the dream where a fantastic walk can be combined with a café where the cake selection is big, the coffee good and strong and the views beautiful.
This Wandering Kitchen at the Lake is at Queensford lake in Berinsfield; they also share the site with Oxford Wet and Wild aqua park and Oxford Wakeboard and Ski Club, there’s open water swimming there too.
Start at the café, which is gorgeously decorated, and dive into the delicious menu. There’s something for all whether you are looking for a strong coffee with a big slab of cake (hello every parent on the planet!) or something a bit more substantial. Grab a seat by the window, or outside if it’s nice, for glorious views of the lake
When you have loaded up, head on the 2.5k walk around the lake – there is lots to stop and look at, including the water skiers which we were fascinated with! The speedboats create lovely ripples in the water too. We also completed a trail around the lake, which the café put on regularly, and loved finding all the letters to unscramble and win a prize. You need a visitors pass from the café to walk around the lakes – £3 per person or £5 for a family of 4. If you spend over £10 in the café, the pass is free. We spent two hours on the route and loved it: we bought frozen peas to feed the ducks with, jumped in puddles and finished with a rainbow!
I will add to this that you can hear the road on this walk and some of it is next to the A407/ Oxford Rd – there is a fence and trees between so it is secure but you can hear it, just in case you are seeking a quiet walk (in which case you probably wouldn’t be going with children!)
