It’s a windy one!
At 261 metres (856 ft), White Horse Hill is the highest point in Oxfordshire and on a clear day the panoramic views stretch over six counties – it’s quite breath-taking. There’s lots of of stories surrounding this area, legend has it that Dragon Hill is where St George slayed the ferocious fire-breathing dragon. The famous white horse is the oldest cut-chalk figure in Britain and is formed from deep trenches filled with chalk. We made it up to Uffington Castle and then swiftly came back down again as my youngest was blown over!
This is an exhilarating outing with the wind in your face and views for miles around! Bring a kite if you are brave enough – ours snapped it was so windy! A word of advice: dress for the cold and then bring more layers, it can get pretty chilly up there.
Add to your adventure by tagging on a walk to Wayland’s Smithy, only a mile walk away via the Ridgeway, believed to be the home of Wayland, the Saxon god of metal working.
