SATURDAY 19th JULY

 

🔨Ashmolean: Festival of Archaeology 

This festival explores being Really Roman, and celebrates the opening of our redisplayed Rome Galleries. It’s a free event for all the family. Drop in to enjoy a huge variety arts and crafts, demonstrations, and storytelling. Make your own Roman mosaics, meet Roman traders and get to explore objects in the Museum.

🐰Headington Library: Narnia Chalk Adventure

Narnia-themed outdoor chalking!  Step through the wardrobe and into the enchanting world of Narnia, where you can bring your favourite characters and scenes to life with chalk art.

🥼Museum of Natural History: Meet the Scientists

Join the Oxford University Experimental Psychology team to take part in real research. Try a VR headset, listen to a story, or have a go a drawing different facial expressions. Taking part in these activities will help scientists discover more about children’s behaviour and how their brains work.

A relaxed morning opening to explore the Museum collections in a quiet environment for families with members on the autism spectrum.

🫧OPA Playday: Blackbird Leys

Blackbird Leys, it’s your turn! FREE fun activities for families with lots of local community groups in attendance too. There’s brilliant activities at these events including go-karting, art, giant bubbles, smoothie bike, Ride on Time, chemistry, zorbing, fire play and more.

😵‍💫Oxford Illusion Museum 

When things aren’t quite what they seem! Set over four floors, this place is an absolute trip! Here’s our fave bits: an upside-down room, mirror maze (hilarious!), infinity dodecahedron, glowing wands, upside-down glasses and more! This is brilliant fun for the kids and something a bit different!

🕺🏼Modern Art Oxford: Movements for Staying Alive

Such a fun and interactive exhibition! It’s like a giant soft play! This exhibition encourages participants to engage with artworks through their body, surely the best antidote to ‘don’t touch!’ Swing, jump, sit, lie, PLAY! Check out the pics – you’ll be racing down there with your crew!

🚌Oxford Bus Museum: FREE heritage bus rides

FREE heritage bus rides at 12.15pm and 2.15pm.  The museum houses a collection of historic buses, coaches and trams plus a model railway too. Super fun and interesting for the whole family!

🌈University Parks: Rainbow of Ribbons

The Rainbow of Ribbons is back again this year. It gives local families the chance to come together to celebrate and remember the people they love but have sadly lost. Sobell House staff and volunteers carefully handwrite loved one’s names on colourful ribbons, which join hundreds of others to create a beautiful display on an oak tree in Oxford’s University Parks. Dedicate your ribbon here.

💨 Combe Mill : Wildlife by the Evenlode 

Open and in-steam! The event is packed with local wildlife, including BBOWT, Al’s Owls, and a beekeepers. There will also be blacksmith demos plus a tinkering area and Millie the Mill Cat Trail for children.

🐰Waterperry Gardens: Alice in Wonderland Orienteering Trail

Follow the clues and compass directions to find the 9 hidden Alice in Wonderland characters, who are ready to be discovered by intrepid young adventurers throughout the gardens. Each child takes home a prize. Head to the playground on the lawn after for a run around.
