Caper bookshop

Caper bookshop

Date of Adventure: 8 Feb, 2024

People, I have found the bookshop of dreams: Caper on Magdalen Rd. It’s actually so much more than a bookshop, it’s a cross between The Story Museum, Narnia and your favourite independent book shop.

And they have events! Loads of events! From art sessions to kids’ cookery classes, LEGO engineering and poetry workshops. It doesn’t matter if you are 2 or 82, there’s something here for you!  Keep your eyes peeled for loads of goings-on in school holidays!

What we love most is the little surprises that speak to children (and adults if I’m honest!): a cupboard with coats opening into the event space (hello Narnia!), a fridge full of books (why not!), a bed bursting out of the wall (nap anyone? 💤 ), a door that opens onto a wall of sequins (sensory heaven!), clocks telling you the time in Wonderland, Mordor, Narnia, Oz and Ankh- Morpork…I mean it’s just SO creative.

Little ones can explore the craft corner, play in the tent and mooch in chairs for big and small. Of course there’s a beautifully and thoughtfully curated selection of books for the very young, right up to adults too.

This isn’t just a bookshop, it’s an experience.

Know?

Oxford Preservation Trust bought the Victoria Arms pub in 1959 to save the nearly derelict building. Now fully renovated, this rural gem re-opened in 1984. It's still standing proud and serving Oxford’s pub-goers every day!

Fancy buying me a ko-fi?
