IF – Oxford Science and Ideas Festival

IF – Oxford Science and Ideas Festival

Date of Adventure: 24 Sep, 2023

Buckle up and enjoy the ride – the IF Science and Ideas Festival is seriously mind opening!  So much to see, do and experience across the age ranges and over 100 events at 32 venues; there’s something for everyone! From robot racing and microbes to dark matter and mathematics, explore the intriguing and unexpected and learn about cutting-edge thinking from world-leading academics.

We’re especially looking forward to these:

The Explorazone

Our top pick with hands on and interactive activities and demos for all ages. 6 hours of STEM fun! This is free, but you need to book, get in there! We went last year and my boys could have stayed for 24 hours – they still talk about it to this day!

Air: how do we know it’s there?

A multi -sensory exploration of air where the audience are scientists! Observe and experiment together!

Robot racing

Control mini robots on races and watch bigger machines tackle obstacles on the Roger Bannister track.

Blast!

The Blackbird Leys Awesome Science and Technology Zone is where you can meet scientists, take in engineering challenges and create your own vehicle.

Science @ the Shops

Science comes to Templars Square shopping centre. From geology to genetics and medicine to magic. Take part in exciting activities for all ages and meet the people shaping tomorrow’s future today.

Pokémaths

Calling all Pokémon fans! It’s the numbers behind the video game! How many Pikachus does it take to power a lightbulb? Look at the maths behind one of the world’s favourite video games. For teenagers upwards.

Surprising Science

Science tricks, stunts and puzzles! Gravity defying illusions and impossible looking balances – learn new tricks to suit use your friends!

Science Oxford Live Lab Family Day

Two hours in the Exploration Zone including ‘Make your own virus’!

Honestly, there is too much to write about this festival. Get yourself there and have your mind opened!
