The Kingston Bagpuize Millennium Green is a nature reserve and community park created by the villagers of Kingston Bagpuize and Southmoor. The 9 acre site is home to over 2000 trees of 27 varieties and is packed full of wildlife. It has been so intentionally designed and there is something in every corner to enjoy.
The highlight is the mosaic trail; so interesting and beautiful. Twelve of them are dotted around the nine acre site and there is a quiz for the older children to take part in too. The mosaics are based on nature and are designed and created by local resident Sharon Cooper, with the help of other residents. We have done this trail so many times and each time it is a joy! A map of the mosaic trail can be found by the main information board near the entrance or download from here. My little one loved finding and touching them, pointing out eyes and claws, ears and wings. Beware of no.11 – looks like a football and little ones may be tempted to give it a boot!
Your little ones will love the path maze and exploring different routes again and again. There are little copses and canopies to walk through and each one brings new surprises: one led us to the human sundial, which is just brilliant. Children can climb the giant steps to the mound and look at the brightly decorated numbers, each with pictures depicting wild species. Next, visit the nature pond and walk along the boardwalk – lots of activity in there and full of froglets come June and July. Don’t forget to pat the wooden alligator before you continue on you way.
A note to those adventuring with pooches – this is a dog-free adventure and four-legged friends are not allowed inside the Millemium Green site.
If you fancy a treat on the way home, go via Mollie’s Motel & Diner Drive-thru, which serves up milkshakes of dreams!
