At the start of 2021 this area was totally overgrown and inaccessible in places, having been a rubbish dump for the past 50 years, until a dedicated group of volunteers came together and resurrected it to its former glory – mostly without outside funding. It’s incredible what a collective group of people can achieve in such a short space of time. Bravo and thank you!
This is a whole other world and as well as being beautiful, it supports such a varied and diverse range of wildlife, flora and fauna. Roe deer, grass snakes, slow worms, badgers, woodpeckers and sparrow hawks are just some of the wildlife busy in the area and frogs visit during the spawning season too.
There is a butterfly glade, complete with bench, stream, bridge and boardwalk and a top and lower path, which connects for a circular route, perfect for wanderers, adventurers and Oxplorers; big and small.
Berks, Bucks and Oxon Wildlife Trust (BBOWT) have been on hand to advise on how to manage the reserve for the benefit of wildlife and there is talk of a reptile refugia – the work goes on!
