This 107 hectare nature reserve should be on your radar for all sorts of reasons: sloping valleys with stunning views of the Chiltern Hills (especially lovely now that autumn is painting the trees in a gorgeous hues); 900 different types of fungi, varying landscapes and a well-marked 1 mile circular Wildlife Walk that takes in the best of the reserve.
It’s easy to think that once you have seen one nature reserve you’ve seen them all but you may be surprised at how different they all are. Even my 3 boys, varying in age from 4 – 10 years old and mostly found wrestling on the floor with each other, all found something to marvel at: the size of a tiny leaf, walking through a tunnel of meeting trees and spotting a bird from the window of one of the two bird hides. Pick up backpacks from the Interpretation visitor centre with trails and spotter sheets if you have time to really immerse yourself in nature.
Come spring this place will be awash with bluebells and wild flowers. We’ll be returning for this, if not before, and we hope to see you then!
