Top 5 places to see snowdrops in Oxford and beyond

Feb 2, 2025

‘Tis the season to see snowdrops! You may have seen some peeking through already, or you may be planning where to go in the next few weeks when they are in full show. Whatever your plans, start with our snowdrop guide, because we love them as much as you do! Click on the headings for more info and pics.

Waterperry Gardens

They are out already! Waterperry is serious when it comes to snowdrops and you will find more than 60 different snowdrop varieties, double and single-flowered, carpeting the ornamental gardens, plus a spectacular show down by the walk along the River Thame. As well as the beautiful show of snowdrops, Waterperry is great for a run around with a visit to the play area after a must. If your little snowdrops are still full of beans after that then take them on the Waterperry – Waterstock walk for an added leg stretch.

🗓 Snowdrop season at Waterperry for the whole of February ⏰Open 10am – 5pm 💴 Adults £11.50 Under 16 Free🎫 No pre-booking needed

Snowdrop Teas at St Botolph’s Church and Swyncombe Circular Walk

Stunning!! This is our go-to for snowdrops as the churchyard is absolutely carpeted in white. The Snowdrop Teas are a real highlight and are in the 3rd/4th, 10th/11th and 17th/ 18th of February. Fill up on cake and then go for the Swyncome Circular Walk which starts at the church. This is a tradition you will rinse and repeat every year!

The house will also be open on the 16th and 23rd February. The much anticipated Snowdrop and Spring Plant Fair is on Sunday 23rd February (separate entry fee – see website) and is so very quaint. As always with us, the tea and homemade cakes make the visit a true delight!

Oxford Botanic Gardens

You’ll see snowdrops popping up all over the place in the Botanic Gardens, with a fine show in the Walled Garden – the Garden’s oldest section. There are snowdrop tours led by horticulturalists in February or just stand and appreciate the sight of the snowdrops mingling with other spring flowers.

🗓 Open daily⏰ 10am – 4pm 💴 Adult £7.20, under 16 Free  🎫 No pre-booking required

A little further afield?

Know?

Tracey Emin’s first British exhibition since 1997 was at Modern Art Oxford in 2002 and drew together the artist's now iconic neon wall hangings, drawings, etchings, film works, and a large scale sculpture installation of a pier and shack made from reclaimed timber.
