Ropes on the Rye Adventure Playground

Ropes on the Rye Adventure Playground

Date of Adventure: 26 Apr, 2024

Wow! This is a spruce up and a half! If you have been to Ropes on the Rye adventure playground over the past few years then you will have noticed the equipment looking a bit worse for wear…well, they have replaced, upgraded and improved and it is looking amazing!

The bespoke ‘Tree Castle’ multi-play unit is the star with so many different parts the mind boggles! Ramps, bridges (each different – we love this), slides, poles, stepping stones, ladders, a terrifying pendulum thing and so much more. The different heights give varying perspectives and all ages are catered for with big and little slides and various access points suitable for different heights. So many ways to climb, move, explore and PLAY! In the wider play area there is a ‘cocowave swing’ (looks like a snake), mini space net, a track ride tower (similar to a zip wire), in-ground trampolines, seesaw and wheelchair accessible roundabout and linking footpath. Plus a colourful basketball and football area which is popular with older children. There is also a PECS and sign language board; never seen this in a playground before and a nod to hidden disabilities.

This play area is part of the bigger Rye and Hollymead Park, which boasts 53 acres of green space. There is another playground near to the Ropes but that now looks even more tired than before, maybe that will have a spruce up soon. Another big pull is the waterfall area by the Lido which children flock to in the summer, it has little stepping stones in and is very shallow.

This was a popular playground already and will be even more so now! Saying that, we went for a morning visit and it was empty but we’ve also been at the weekend and it’s been much busier as you would expect.

What a fantastic asset  – we love it!
