Blenheim Estate – Long Hanborough walk

Blenheim Estate – Long Hanborough walk

Date of Adventure: 9 May, 2023

A perfect, and perfectly beautiful, circular walk – you won’t believe the landscape you are walking through!

We originally spied this route on the Blenheim Estate website, although I suspect that this has long been a favourite walking route of many. It takes in lanes, woodland, streams and skirts the River Evenlode. We took the 45 minute route (see map in photos) but it ended up taking us 3 hours as there was so much to see and do along the way. It’s defo one to file for a grown up walk on the longer route.

It’s hard to name a favourite part. The river is glorious and so inviting, lots of banks to walk down and access the water from – I was with just my 2 eldest when I did this walk but do supervise closely as near all water. For a less stressful water experience, the route back will follow a very very shallow stream which children can walk in with wellies. The woodland is like something out of a film and spreads down the quite severe gradient of the hill, adding to its grandeur. Look out for the rope swing – swinging out over such a steep gradient is not for the faint hearted. My boys entered into it with gusto. I lost about 10 years off my life.

Things not to do: go off track on the advice of two children who have not been privy to the map and end up skidding down pretty much a sheer drop whilst said children laugh hysterically Do not then do the same thing coming back, but this time climbing up the hill and with the added stress of 2 coats that nobody else will carry. Also me. In short, stick to the paths.
