The Phoenix Trail

The Phoenix Trail

Date of Adventure: 25 Jun, 2023

A flat, traffic-free, 7.5 mile route between Thame and Princess Risborough which largely follows a disused railway line. The railway line, purchased by charity Sustrans in 1997 and turned into the Phoenix Trail, is part of the bigger National Cycle Route 57.

As well as being a perfect family cycle, the trail itself is rich in wildlife and has some lovely views over the Chiltern Hills. There are also 30 sculptures to spot along the route, inspired by the old railway, and watch out for the Red Kites soaring above. This route is perfect for confident cyclists, great for those building up their cycling legs and also enjoyed by passengers in bike seats, cargos and trailers too!

We get lots of our cycling inspiration from a fantastic fb group called Family Cycling UK. If you are a family of keen cyclists, or you just enjoy a pedal potter, then this group has a wealth of knowledge. The Sustrans website also has lots of information on family cycling and traffic-free routes all across the UK, and for more Oxford-centric cycle info, head to Cyclox.
