Such an amazing urban retreat in Reading and such a journey from derelict swimming pool to beautiful lido!
The history is so interesting: Thames Lido is the disused King’s Meadow swimming pool located by the river Thames on King’s Meadow in Reading, Berkshire. It was first opened to the public in 1903 as the Ladies Swimming Bath to allow Edwardian women to bathe in privacy. In August 2004, as a result of a campaign, the building was awarded Grade II listed building status and the owners of the equally fabulous Bristol Lido took charge of the 3 year restoration project to turn it into the Thames Lido we see today.
We love the nod to the original features like the traditional poolside changing rooms, woven in with the sleek and modern design of the restaurant. You’ll also find a hot tub, steam rooms and treatment rooms offering facials, massages and manicures. The packages offer really good value for special occasions including Twilight Spa, Swim and Afternoon Tea and Swim and Dine. I go there once a year with a friend for our annual meet up and we absolutely love it.
This one is defo for the Big Oxplorers only and what’s more, you deserve every second of it.
