The Tree Barn, Christmas Common

The Tree Barn, Christmas Common

Date of Adventure: 6 Nov, 2024

Get ready for Christmas people…this year at the Tee Barn is the last big one. This family business which has been giving us the best Christmas vibes for the past 20 years is downsizing. From 2025 the Christmas Shop will be scaled back as the owner, Mother Christmas herself, takes a well earned break! Along with the Christmas essentials, such as tree stands, basic lighting and wreaths, they will be selling more ethical, unique, sustainable, and local (where possible) Christmas goodies and maybe a small Christmas Café…so enjoy it while you can!

Everything you could ever want, including things that you didn’t even know existed for you to want, is here! Decorations in every shape, size, design and material all perfectly dressed on different trees so you can strive to be the Christmas person you want to be…and possibly fail. But that’s what the cheese and wine is for – to make you realise that that’s ok.

There are probably about 10 dressed trees around the barn, each with a different theme. They are so impressive; I saw on their Facebook page that they started getting the barn ready in September! This is how much work goes into the design. And it works! Every year I leave with much more than I went in for (I blame the Christmas smells that fill the barn – it puts me under some sort of spell) but it’s just too hard to resist. Who knew I needed a tomato ketchup decoration? Not me! Why is my life empty without a football bauble?! I just don’t know! But I need them all. I had to really restrain myself from buying all sorts of doggy advent calendars and grinch soft toys (we are the no.1 supplier of soft toys to our local charity shop) but my boys always twist my arm with some weird and wonderful purchases. Remember, breakages understandably have to be paid for (we have had a few in the past) so watch little hands carefully!

Tree sales are from November 23rd.

The Oxford Canal starts at Hythe Bridge, just a few minutes from the city centre and railway station. Built over 200 years ago, dug by hand, it flows north out of the city, through Banbury, and all the way to Coventry.
